A recent expedition into the clear waters off the coast of Key Largo led to a startling discovery for a group of scuba divers. On Wednesday, roughly 25 kilograms of what is suspected to be cocaine were found in approximately 100 feet of water in the Atlantic Ocean. WSVN reported that the find was made near the Rainbow Reef Dive Center around 12:25 p.m., after those involved believed they were simply removing debris from the ocean floor.

The packages, individually wrapped, were reported by the divers to the Monroe County Sheriff's Office which promptly responded to the scene at the dive center. While the divers were aiming to preserve the marine ecosystem, cleaning up the reefs, they stumbled upon the submerged cache. The Monroe County Sheriff's Office later handed over the suspected drugs to the U.S. Border Patrol to undergo a further investigation, diving into the murky underworld of narcotics trafficking.

As news of this discovery made waves, further details have been sparse. The U.S. Border Patrol has not provided immediate updates on the origin or intended destination of the haul. However, coastline incidents such as this are not unheard of in this stretch of Florida, suggesting a possible transit route for smugglers taking advantage of the vast and often unpatrolled oceanic expanses.

Despite the unusual find, routine activities at the diving center have resumed. The Rainbow Reef Dive Center, renowned for its coral formations and underwater wildlife, remains an attraction for divers from around the world bustling with daily expeditions. Those at the center continue to dive with eyes wide open, perhaps now not only to the wonders of aquatic life but also to the possibilities that lie hidden beneath the waves. The Miami Herald post on X account that such reports highlight the ongoing challenge of illicit substances trafficking in coastal regions.
