Two Broward County teenagers are now in custody after threatening violence in separate schools, sparking a swift response from local law enforcement and the FBI. In the incidents, both of which involved social media, the young students brandished the threat of gun violence, leading to serious criminal charges.

The first arrest, as reported by NBC Miami, involved a 15-year-old from Blanche Ely High School in Pompano Beach. This youth allegedly posted an Instagram video on May 20, in which he seemed to be wielding a gun, accompanied by "posting verbiage construed to be a threat." Upon his arrival at school on Tuesday, detectives made an arrest, and in subsequent questioning, he admitted his responsibility for the video.

Meanwhile, the second instance revolved around a May 31 Snapchat post. A 14-year-old Westglades Middle School student in Parkland alluded to carrying out a school shooting. As indicated by WSVN, Snapchat's contact with authorities triggered an inquiry involving both the Broward Sheriff's Office’s Threat Management Unit and the FBI. Like in the first case, this student also confessed to making the threatening post when interviewed by detectives.

Following the arrests, both teens have been taken to the Juvenile Assessment Center. Reinforced by these events, the Broward Sheriff's Office issued a statement underscoring the gravity of the situation. "These arrests should serve as a reminder to parents, caregivers and students that making threats are no joking matter," Broward Sheriff's Office said. The statement further emphasized that such incidents warrant full investigations and can culminate in criminal charges, reflecting the urgency and severity with which these threats are received—in the eye of both the law and a society that remains ever-vigilant in the wake of past tragedies, as reported by NBC Miami.
