An incident in Northeast Miami-Dade has led to the arrest of a delivery driver, Sarahy Naybeth Parra-Ovalles, 45, after she was involved in a hit-and-run that seriously injured a mother and her infant son. According to WSVN, the incident occurred in the Aventura Isles neighborhood on the morning of Thursday, August 22nd.

The driver is alleged to have been speeding when she struck the mother, who was trying to cross the intersection of Northeast 191st Street and Seventh Avenue. Surveillance footage shows Parra-Ovalles momentarily assisting the baby and stroller after the collision, then returning to her SUV to quickly drive away. As reported by WSVN, a resident identified as Neil described what he witnessed: "A car hit a lady with a stroller, with a young baby."

Orit Feigelman, a witness to the aftermath of the crash, expressed her indignation to WSVN, stating, "To hit and run like this, to leave a young woman with a baby, unacceptable." Another neighborhood resident, Cassie Kress, a nurse, saw the victims immediately post-accident and rushed to aid them, reportedly saving the mother's life. The mother, who was dragged by the car, remains in intensive care, the baby, thankfully, has been released and is now recovering at home with family.

Parra-Ovalles reportedly continued delivering packages in the area after the incident and was wearing a blue vest at the time of the crash. It is not clear whether she was delivering for Amazon, though during the investigation, she has been charged with leaving the scene of a crash with serious bodily injury. A spokesperson for Amazon declared that they are looking into the circumstances surrounding the event.

After the police employed investigative methods to track her down, Parra-Ovalles was taken into custody at around 5:45 p.m. on Friday. According to Local 10, she waived her right to remain silent but denied involvement in the hit-and-run, later invoking her rights after being shown video evidence of the incident. She is now facing multiple felony charges, and there has been no update regarding the mother's condition after her admission to the hospital.
