An Amite man is in custody after admitting to the fatal shooting of his pregnant girlfriend. According to a statement released by the Tangipahoa Parish Sheriff’s Office, Demarcus Womack, 22, faced charges including second-degree murder, feticide, and obstruction of justice.

Deputies responded to a distress call from a residence on Bankston Road in Amite, just before 7 a.m. yesterday, and upon arrival, they found Aieron Thomas, 19, unresponsive with a gunshot wound to the chest, reported by FOX8 Live; Thomas, who deputies confirmed was 13 weeks pregnant, was pronounced dead at the scene and Womack, her live-in boyfriend quickly emerged as the primary suspect in the case, he admitted to the shooting as well as trying to hide evidence of the crime, which included the firearm used to commit the act, said the sheriff's office.
