The Nashville community awoke to grim news this morning as details emerged about a double homicide on Vultee Boulevard. According to a press release provided by the Metro Nashville Police Department, two men were fatally shot outside a residence where they had just arrived.
The victims, identified as Luis Gonzalez-Barajas, 37, and Franklin Bautista-Ayala, 29, found dead when they arrived at the scene, had reportedly driven into the driveway just after 11:30 p.m. when an argument ensued with a man known only as Jose, who was sitting on the front porch. The altercation swiftly escalated as Jose, appearing to hold two pistols, opened fire across the yard.
When officers arrived at the shooting scene, they saw a man in a pickup truck trying to leave. This man, thought to be Jose, ran back toward the house. Officers surrounded the area and called for anyone inside to come out, but it took about four hours before a man and woman confirmed that Jose lived there. Jose had likely fled on foot after leaving the truck, and the guns linked to the crime were found outside the house.
The Specialized Investigations Division supports the ongoing investigation as detectives work to confirm Jose’s full name and determine his current location. Both the pistols, thought to have been used by Jose, were recovered at the scene.
