
A tragedy unfolded on the streets of Slidell this past weekend when a woman lost her life after being struck by two different SUVs in quick succession, police state.
According to WDSU, the incident occurred on U.S. Highway 11 near Interstate 12 around 8 p.m. Saturday, where the Slidell Police Department responded to reports of a pedestrian being hit by a vehicle; upon their arrival, officers found a woman with severe injuries, she was pronounced dead at the scene, the cause of the accident remains under investigation and the names of the drivers involved have not been released, however, impairment and distraction have been ruled out as contributing factors as both drivers underwent testing in line with investigative procedures.
In a separate statement echoed by Nola.com, officials conveyed that the woman, who has yet to be publicly identified, was present in the northbound lane of the highway for reasons yet to be understood when the unfortunate sequence of events led to her being hit by two different SUVs, the subsequent investigations, thorough in their nature, are seeking to piece together the moments leading to the woman's presence on the road and to the tragic outcome.
Further details provided by the Slidell Police Department's Facebook page explained that their Traffic Fatality Team is hard at work analyzing evidence and witness statements to unravel the full story behind this collision; meanwhile, the St. Tammany Parish Coroner’s Office has taken custody of the deceased, pending notification of next of kin, the identity of the woman will remain withheld until the family has been informed, as authorities continue the investigation.
Slidell Police Department has not suggested any wrongdoing by the drivers.
