Three firefighters were injured while responding to a blaze that erupted in the garage of a Riverton home, as reported on Saturday afternoon. The incident left one firefighter treated at the scene, while two others were transported to the hospital sustaining minor injuries, per an update given by Unified Fire Authority's public information officer, Benjamin Porter. As detailed by ABC4, the response to the garage fire commenced at approximately 1 p.m. on the same day.

The fire itself was traced back to a vehicle that caught on fire as it was being started, leading to flammable liquids further igniting while firefighters were inside the garage. In what displayed their commitment to quickly and effectively manage such hazardous situations, the firefighters reacted, albeit one found his clothes consumed by flames, which led to his colleagues rushing to aid him. The incident was likened to "a football looking for a fumble" by Jan Johnson, a resident who witnessed the emergency unfold, as obtained by KUTV. They jumped to smother the fire, with onlookers reportedly growing nervous as events unfolded.

Johnson further expressed her initial reaction to the fire, recounting the moment her son noticed the blaze. "We ran out the back door and we could see the flames on top of the roof," she said, as per KSLTV. "It was blowing towards the north and tons of smoke just coming out." The concern spread among neighbors, as they called out warnings to stay clear of the garage in peril.
