A FedEx driver in Pembroke Pines became the latest victim of package theft mid-delivery on Friday, as they were robbed by a duo pretending to be recipients. NBC Miami reported that the event occurred around 12:35 p.m. near SW 14th Court, where a woman confronted the driver, claiming ownership of the package.
The driver's request for ID to confirm her assertion led to an argument and then to violence when a man arrived and punched the package out of the driver’s hands, the woman quickly claimed the fallen package and both suspects fled, the welfare of the driver post-incident has not been disclosed. Citing the Pembroke Pines police, Miami Daily Life detailed that the recent crime follows another shocking incident earlier this month, in which an Amazon delivery driver was stabbed and robbed in Fort Lauderdale; the perpetrator of that crime was located and arrested.
The two incidents underscore an unsettling trend of attacks on those delivering goods in the area; unfortunately, as of this writing, authorities have not handed out further details regarding a potential search for the two suspects who targeted the FedEx driver. The incident raises concerns about what measures are currently in place to ensure the protection of delivery workers from such confrontations and thefts.
While the safety of delivery personnel is being scrutinized, it remains to be seen how local law enforcement will respond to these flagrant acts of criminality.
