A fatal collision that occurred in West Palm Beach yesterday resulted in the death of a local woman and left a teenager with minor injuries. The accident, which involved a pickup truck and a sedan, took place near the intersection of Village Boulevard and Shenandoah Drive just before midday.
According to the official website of the city's police department, at 11:51 a.m. on Wednesday, emergency services were alerted to the crash. The West Palm Beach Police Department reported that 68-year-old Maureen Andrea Wheeler, who was driving a 2008 Lexus LS460, was pronounced dead at the scene. Her vehicle was struck by a 2015 Ford F150, operated by 15-year-old Rony Vicente-Bravo.
The initial investigation suggests that Wheeler was attempting a left turn onto Village Boulevard from Shenandoah Drive when her Lexus was hit by the southbound pickup truck. Suffering minor injuries while driving the pickup, Vicente-Bravo was taken to Palm Beach Children’s Hospital, where he was admitted for observation. The crash resulted in significant damage to both vehicles, closing the southbound portion of Village Boulevard for several hours as authorities conducted their investigation.
Speed is believed to be a factor in this incident, as stated by the authorities, and criminal charges against the teen are pending the outcome of the ongoing investigation. While the local community grapples with this tragic event, the police department encourages citizens to report any suspicious activity and submit photos or videos through the SaferWatch app, available for both Android and iOS users.
