The streets of Magna, Utah were the scene of a tragic accident last Tuesday night, when a Toyota Sequoia ran a red light on SR 201 at 8000 West, resulting in a fatal collision. The Utah Department of Public Safety reported that around 9:10 pm, the Sequoia hit a Ford Escape, which was then engulfed in flames. The impact sent the Sequoia further into a Kia Forte, whose occupants suffered minor injuries.
According to the Utah Department of Public Safety, Rossana J Moreno, 34, of Magna, was driving the Ford Escape and was rushed to a nearby hospital following the collision. There, she was pronounced deceased. Adding to the chaos of the crash, having collided with the Ford and Kia, the driver of the Sequoia fled on foot and was later captured by authorities, who disclosed that the same individual was a suspect in a shooting that occurred earlier that same day in West Valley.
The Utah Highway Patrol is currently investigating the circumstances of the fatal crash. In addition to the loss suffered, Magna residents are now entwined with the aftermath of a violent day that had roots in separate criminal activities. The West Valley Police Department is handling the investigation into the earlier shooting, and questions related to that incident should be directed their way.
