Residents of New Orleans have an opportunity to kickstart their path to a healthier lifestyle as the New Orleans Recreation Development (NORD) Commission opens the FitNOLA Spring Season with a Health Expo. On Saturday, from 9:30 a.m. to 1 p.m., the community is invited to join in free wellness activities at the Rosenwald Recreation Center, located at 1140 S. Broad St. In a statement obtained by City of New Orleans, Larry Barabino Jr., CEO of NORD Commission, expressed excitement about providing the community with accessible health resources and fun fitness opportunities.
The event is set to offer an array of group exercise sessions featuring local fitness partners like Shaolin NOLA, ANEW Fitness, By Our Hands Wellness, CrossFit NOLA, and Footprints to Fitness, these collaborations aiming to inspire and nurture the seeds of well-being among the attendees. Ochsner Health adds a layer of medical insight by offering biometric screenings such as cholesterol and blood pressure checks; they're giving personalized consults to participants who may wish to understand their health metrics and find terms to live by.
To stream the registrative process and minimize waiting times, organizers are suggesting that the public pre-register online, though they have also made provisions for welcoming those who happen without prior notice, walk-ins. Alongside exercise, the expo will highlight wellness resources from an assembly of service providers, including No Wrap/No Tap (CrescentCare), All of UsLSU Health Sciences Center, New Orleans East Hospital, Bike Easy, STRIVE, Heart N’ Hands, among others, each contributing their expertise to the cause of promoting holistic health in the city.
"We are thrilled to launch another season of FitNOLA and provide our community with opportunities to prioritize health and wellness," Barabino Jr. told City of New Orleans, emphasizing the coalition of fitness and health partners that are empowering New Orleanians to embrace healthier lifestyles in ways both enlivening and reachable, a sentiment mirroring NORD's commitment to the nurturing of a fit and vibrant collective well-being in the city.
