An armed man was injured after a police officer and a deputy fired their weapons during a joint law enforcement investigation in Lauderhill last night. The incident occurred near an apartment complex on the 4100 block of Northwest 21st Street, according to NBC Miami.
The Broward Sheriff's Office (BSO) and Lauderhill Police were approached by two armed men, leading to an altercation, WSVN reported. A BSO deputy and a Lauderhill Police officer fired their guns to prevent the situation from escalating. One of the men was hit and later hospitalized.
After the gunfire, the injured suspect was taken to Broward Health Medical Center. While his condition wasn’t specified, 7Skyforce footage showed him with a gunshot wound to the arm. The second armed man remains at large.
As per standard procedure, the officers involved have been placed on administrative leave. The Florida Department of Law Enforcement (FDLE) is handling the investigation into the shooting. Carey Codd, a BSO spokesperson, confirmed that "Investigators were able to recover multiple firearms on the scene," in a statement obtained by WSVN. BSO’s Internal Affairs Unit is also reviewing the incident to ensure transparency.
No law enforcement personnel were injured during the altercation.
