In a sobering incident on I-80, a driver lost his life in a tragic accident near Tooele County on Wednesday. According to Utah Department of Public Safety, a 66-year-old man driving a blue 2019 Ford Mustang veered off the highway and collided with the center cable barrier. The crash happened around 1:10 pm yesterday, near mile marker 101 on the eastbound lanes of the interstate.
The first responders finding the scene were confronted by a grim reality. Upon arrival, they discovered the driver unresponsive, slumped over the console's center. Despite desperate efforts to revive him, he was pronounced dead at the scene, signifying yet another soul claimed by the caprices of metal and velocity. As emergency services worked, I-80's eastbound traffic was reduced to a crawl, bottlenecking into a single lane, while northbound traffic on SR-36 also felt the ripple effect of the delay.
Travelers on I-80 westbound, however, experienced no significant slowdowns, with two lanes remaining in operation. The authorities expect that the thoroughfare, acting as the main artery of this expansive western landscape, should resume its regular pulse of ebbing and flowing traffic by approximately 4:30 pm.
