The Illinois Department of Children and Family Services (DCFS) has reason to celebrate tonight as it prepares to accept a substantial donation from Sigma Gamma Rho Sorority, Inc., during the sorority's Centennial Regional Conference at McCormick Place in Chicago. DCFS is set to receive $9,200 in funds, plus hundreds of vital childcare items like onesies, bottles, diapers, wipes, and more.
This charitable contribution stems from a concerted project known as Project Cradle Care-Bottles for Babies (PCC B4B), an initiative launched by Sigma Gamma Rho to spotlight and address the needs of minority women, focusing on maternal health and perinatal care. The gathered supplies will soon make their way to DCFS offices statewide, directly benefitting the families and children the department serves. "I cannot thank Sigma Gamma Rho and their membership enough for thinking of DCFS when it came time to choose a recipient of their fundraising efforts this year," Heidi E. Mueller, the director of Illinois DCFS, said in a statement obtained by Illinois.gov. "Diapers, wipes and all the gear babies need are expensive, and this generous donation will immediately impact the lives of new and expectant mothers across Illinois and help the youngest children in our care get off to the best start possible."
