A deputy-involved shooting in Marrero is currently under investigation by the Jefferson Parish Sheriff’s Office. According to a recent Facebook post by the department, the incident stemmed from an investigation into a stolen vehicle.

Deputies tried to apprehend the vehicle, but the driver defiantly refused to pull over. This initiated a pursuit that ended near Ames Blvd. and 4th St. There, a juvenile male abandoned the vehicle and attempted to flee on foot. A deputy chased after the suspect.

"At around 7:45 pm, the deputy located the male between two residences in the 600 block of Silver Lily Ln. The male was armed with a handgun and wearing a balaclava, commonly referred to as a “Pooh Shiesty” mask. During the confrontation, the deputy fired his service weapon. The male was struck by at least one of the fired rounds," detailed the sheriff's office in their statement.

Following the shooting, the juvenile complied with the deputy's instructions. He was handcuffed and promptly received medical attention as emergency services were called to the scene. The injured male was transported to a local hospital, where he is listed in stable condition. Meanwhile, law enforcement successfully recovered the stolen vehicle, albeit the driver responsible for the initial chase is still at large.

The Jefferson Parish Sheriff’s Office urges anyone with information on this case to reach out to their Detective Bureau at 504-364-5300 or to contact Crimestoppers, thereby aiding in the ongoing investigation and search for the absconding driver.
