San José police have arrested 19-year-old resident Erik Enriquez in connection with a New Year's Eve shooting that injured a woman. The incident occurred around 11:14 PM on December 31, 2024, when the victim and two other adult females entered a rideshare vehicle at Don Alfonso Way and Entrada Cedros. An armed man, identified as Enriquez, approached the car and opened fire as the vehicle began to pull away, striking one of the passengers.

The San José Police Department (SJPD) disclosed that the driver swiftly took the wounded passenger to a hospital, where she received treatment for injuries that were not life-threatening. Enriquez, the alleged shooter, escaped the scene before officers could arrive but was later caught following a separate arrest, where he was found with what police believe to be the firearm used on New Year's Eve.

In a press release shared on the San José Police Department's website, officials stated that detectives from the SJPD Assaults Unit spearheaded a thorough investigation, which led to the identification and subsequent arrest of Enriquez. A search warrant executed at the suspect's residence yesterday resulted in the discovery of an un-serialized assault rifle, further implicating Enriquez in the crime.

According to the press release, Enriquez has been charged with attempted murder, discharge of a firearm into an occupied vehicle, vandalism, and possession of an assault rifle. He was booked into the Santa Clara County Main Jail. The police are urging anyone with information about this incident or other similar cases to come forward and contact Detective Lindenberg #4673 of the Assaults Unit.
