The St. Charles Parish Department of Parks and Recreation is gearing up for the fifth annual Fish Dat Rodeo, a family-oriented fishing tournament, on Saturday, May 10. A fixture on the local event calendar, the rodeo is set to take place at the Bonnet Carre’ Spillway Lower Guide Levee Boat Launch. According to an announcement by the parish, the event caters to bank and boat fishers alike, inviting anglers of all ages to compete in categories including bass, bream, catfish, sac-a-lait, and a miscellaneous section for the intrepid anglers who reel in the unexpected.
According to a statement obtained by St. Charles Parish's official news release, Parks and Recreation Director Duane Foret enthused about the event's role in promoting community ties, saying, "The Fish Dat Rodeo has become a highly anticipated tradition for families and young anglers." By offering opportunities for fishing whether from the bank or afloat, the event aims to be an accessible and shared experience that kindles a passion for fishing among participants.
Keen fishers can register online until May 9 via the event's registration page, with fees set at $10 for those 12 years old and under, and $15 for participants aged 13 and older, including boat captains. Registration will ensure they're in the running to haul in something worthy of a grand prize—so long as they weigh in at least one fish. The competition kicks off at safe-light, with anglers converging back for the 1 p.m. weigh-in, followed by food, fun, and the awarding of prizes.
