If you're planning to cruise along I-10 East toward Breaux Bridge soon, be prepared to take a slight detour. Announced by Louisiana's Department of Transportation and Development (DOTD), the eastbound entrance and exit ramps at Exit 109 – LA 328 (Breaux Bridge) are set to temporarily close starting Thursday, April 10 at 8:00 p.m., stretching until the next morning, Friday, April 11, at 6:00 a.m., all dependent on whether the skies decide to cooperate.
The reason for this closure is to allow roadwork crews to make necessary asphalt repairs. During this time, drivers who usually hop onto I-10 East at this junction will need to slightly alter their routes. According to DOTD's announcement, motorists will have to continue on to Exit 115 (Henderson, Cecilia), meander northwest on LA 347, to eventually loop back onto I-10 Westbound to Exit 109 – LA 328 (Breaux Bridge).
Moreover, if you're traveling on LA 328 (Rees Street) with the aim to access I-10 East, you'll be met with a similar change-up. The official detour will take you briefly westbound to Exit 104 (Louisiana Avenue) and then southwest on Louisiana Avenue back onto the eastbound highway.
As usual, those driving emergency vehicles won't be able to use the eastbound entrance and exit ramps at Exit 109 – LA 328 during this repair period and will need to plan to make detours accordingly. Those detour routes will be fully posted to ensure no one misses their turn. The good news for truckers and those hauling wide loads is that there will be no vehicle width restrictions in the construction zone.
