The Louisiana Department of Transportation and Development (DOTD) has announced that the I-10 Eastbound entrance and exit ramp at Exit 87 – LA 35 (Church Point, Rayne) in Acadia Parish will be closed at certain times to facilitate milling and paving operations.
The closures are scheduled to occur over four nights, beginning Tuesday, April 15, and concluding the early hours of Monday, April 21, with the work dependent on favorable weather conditions. According to the DOTD announcement, the closures will start at 8:00 p.m. each evening and the ramps will reopen at 6:00 a.m. the following morning. During these construction periods, motorists will have to bypass Exit 87 and follow detour routes that have been duly posted.
For eastbound vehicles on I-10, the official detour will involve continuing to Exit 92 - LA 95 (Mire, Duson), turning north, then rejoining I-10 westbound to reach LA 35 (Church Point, Rayne). Travelers on LA 35 aiming to access I-10 eastbound will be directed to take westbound I-10 to Exit 82 - LA 1111 (East Crowley), turn south, and then get back onto eastbound I-10. It should be noted that emergency vehicles will not have access to the entrance and exit ramps at Exit 87 during these times.
While the ramp closures are bound to help improve these thoroughfares in the long run, they may cause immediate inconveniences for travelers, particularly those who rely on these routes for late-night commutes.
