This past week, ten members of the Jefferson Parish Sheriff’s Office embarked on a journey to the nation's capital to commemorate National Police Week 2025. As shared in a social media post by the Jefferson Parish Sheriff's Office, the officers joined their peers from various states in Washington, D.C. to honor their comrades who lost their lives in the line of duty in 2024.
During the somber gatherings, officers stood in unity with the grieving families, agencies, and communities. "We stand in solidarity with the families, agencies, and communities who carry the weight of that loss. We will never forget," read the statement from the Jefferson Parish Sheriff’s Office. This annual pilgrimage to the capital serves as a resounding reminder of a sacrifice made by those who wear the badge.
Memorial services throughout the week brought together law enforcement professionals, dignitaries, and family members. Moments of silence, the reading of the names of the deceased, and the laying of wreaths were among the acts of remembrance as participants paid their respects to the fallen officers.
