According to the Louisiana Department of Transportation and Development, the northbound outside lane of US 71 (N. Market Street) will be closed on May 21, for utility work. The closure, affecting the stretch north of I-220 near the intersection with LA 3094 (Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. Drive), will span approximately 9:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m.
The move comes as SWEPCO replaces electrical components on an existing utility pole, which is weather permitting, will ensure better service. Motorists familiar with the area will have noticed crews approximately 1.2 miles from the aforementioned intersection, setting the stage for this midweek disruption.
No alternate route has been suggested, pointing driving, walking, or biking locals in the direction of a regular path with heightened awareness.
