Utah's transportation future is shaping up with a light rail expansion on the horizon, and local voices are sought to weigh in on the proposed Point of the Mountain transit project. The Utah Department of Transportation (UDOT) and the Utah Transit Authority (UTA) have opened the floor for public input on an environmental study that pinpoints light rail as the favored course of action to connect Draper and Lehi, as reported by UDOT.
In an attempt to engage with the community, an online meeting is set for Wednesday, June 25, from 5-6 p.m., providing an opportunity for residents to learn more about the Locally Preferred Alternative, the careful planning has been indicative of a thorough approach with plans for phased implementation being highlighted during this session.
Interested individuals have until July 10 to submit their formal comments through various channels, including email to [email protected], online at udotinput.utah.gov/pointtransit, by phone at 385-374-9992, or the old-fashioned way by sending a letter to the project's postal address.
With eyes set on the future, Josh Van Jura, UDOT Trails and Transit Director, emphasized the importance of this public consultation phase. "We are looking long term to provide the best transportation options for Utahns," Van Jura told UDOT, "The public input we’re seeking is an important step as we designate a rail corridor that will support the development projected in the future." Moreover, UTA project manager Marcus Bennett expressed the thriving nature of Utah and the mutual efforts with UDOT to address the wide array of transportation solutions needed to keep up with the escalating demand for efficient transit systems in the region, completing the environmental assessment at Point of the Mountain creates a pathway for funding to flow when the time is ripe.
