A grim discovery was made early this morning near the 2000 block of Lakeshore Drive in New Orleans as a body was found floating in Lake Pontchartrain; the area echoes with the ongoing search for a man reported missing after a boating incident earlier in the week, WWLTV reported.
Authorities initiated a search late Tuesday when an overdue vessel was reported near Lakefront Airport and two men were said to be in the water off the south shore, one individual was rescued by the NOPD, however, the fate of the second, a 51-year-old man described as bald with a back tattoo, wearing swim shorts, has been shrouded in uncertainty since the event, according to a WBRZ article.
The New Orleans Police Department, in tandem with the Coast Guard, has been tending to the search operations given the critical nature of time in such circumstances; the discovery of the body has not yet been officially linked to the missing person case though it was found in proximity to the search area and the Coroner's Office will be disseminating the victim's identity post family notification, as conveyed by WWLTV.
Amidst these unfolding events, the condition of the rescued man has not been made clear, however, a civilian's role emerged pivotal when they reportedly helped him to shore after he had been in the water for numerous hours, as detailed by a WDSU report.
