Heads up, Hickory Avenue commuters—the road is going down to one lane in a northbound stretch this week. If you're planning to hit the stretch between Airline Drive and Dickory Avenue, expect to merge. Officials have announced that one northbound lane will be closed off from 7 a.m. to 5 p.m. today, July 3, and again on Sunday, July 6. The reason? Utility poles along the avenue are getting a much-needed update.
The lane closure might throw a wrench in your usual drive, and you'll have to quickly adapt to use the remaining open lanes. It's confirmed by Jefferson Parish officials that the work is necessary for replacing old utility poles. That kind of infrastructure refresh is important—it keeps the lights on and the energy flowing. The end goal is to wrap up the work by the end of the day on Sunday, assuming the weather decides to play ball.
And while repairs like these may seem to come out of nowhere, remember, those poles don't swap out themselves. Expect the crews to be out there, working hard to quickly fix and then restore the area back to normal. They're not aiming to unnecessarily drag on the process—they, too, want to get it done and move forward. Weather permitting, we're looking at a smooth-sailing Hickory Avenue again by Sunday evening, July 6.
