A tragic event took place as a motorcyclist died after hitting a barrier and falling about 30 feet from an elevated on-ramp in Midvale, as reported by KUTV. The accident happened on Thursday evening on the ramp from Union Park Avenue to Interstate 215, with Utah Highway Patrol confirming the rider was unable to manage the curve and collided with the wall before being thrown from the bike.
At the scene, Lt. Cameron Roden of the Utah Highway Patrol shared that the motorcyclist was traveling northbound on Union Park Avenue to connect to westbound I-215 when he lost control, struck the wall, and was subsequently launched off the bridge onto the roadway below, he told KSL. The ramps to westbound I-215 were closed for investigation, and although the identity of the motorcyclist was not released at the time speed is being looked into as a possible contributing factor, according to officials.
Further details from ABC4 indicate that this crash is the fourth fatal motorcycle incident this week, with previous accidents occurring in Spanish Fork, American Fork, and West Valley City; the Spanish Fork collision led to the arrest of a truck driver on charges of criminal negligence and automobile homicide. The bike in the Midvale incident reportedly remained on the overpass structure after the rider was ejected and fell onto the north side of I-215 next to the westbound lanes.
