Continued efforts to locate a 14-year-old boy presumed to have drowned in a northeast Indianapolis lake are underway, as search teams prepare to resume operations this morning. The Indianapolis Fire Department reports that the teen went missing yesterday after jumping off a pontoon boat into Lake Kesslerwood for a swim, as detailed by WISH-TV. Despite the efforts of friends who tried to find him, the boy failed to resurface, prompting an emergency response from local firefighters.
Teams from both the Indianapolis and Fishers Fire Departments were dispatched, involving two IFD boats, five IFD divers, two Fishers FD boats, and seven Fishers FD divers, FOX59 reported. The lake's 30-foot depth, combined with murky conditions, presented challenges to the responders who also utilized sonar technology in their search efforts this has been compounded by lightning and thunderstorms that disrupted operations last night, forcing crews out of the water.
Despite a brief resumption of the search later in the evening, impending weather caused another suspension, officials said, according to WTHR.
