A fatal crash in St. Landry Parish involving two commercial motor vehicles has resulted in the death of a Broussard man, according to Louisiana State Police. Last Wednesday morning, Marcus Landry, 40, was driving a 2015 Freightliner M2-160 northbound on Interstate 49 when his vehicle collided with the rear of a 2019 Freightliner Cascadia, which was traveling at a reduced speed. The incident occurred just south of the intersection with Louisiana Highway 29.
Despite being properly restrained, Landry succumbed to his injuries at the scene of the accident. The driver of the Cascadia, also properly restrained, escaped uninjured, and voluntarily provided a breath sample that revealed no alcohol present, Louisiana State Police reported. The specific factors leading to this collision remain, under investigation, with toxicology samples from Landry pending analysis.
Louisiana State Police Troop I is handling the investigation into the crash. The crash has prompted reminders from troopers to the public about the importance of road safety. "Troopers wish to remind motorists to always make safe decisions while behind the wheel by eliminating distractions and maintaining full attention on the road," stated a release from the Louisiana State Police.
