Police in Park City responded to an early morning alarm on Sunday at the Park City Gun Club, where they encountered a suspect who had allegedly broken in and committed multiple felonies. The Summit County Sheriff's Office reported that deputies arrived at the scene at approximately 5:30 a.m. due to an alarm activation at the gun club, located at 4285 North Forestdale Drive. The police presence escalated to an hours-long standoff with the 40-year-old Abraham Hernandez Duron, as reported by FOX 13.
The situation turned grave when Duron reportedly began to randomly discharge firearms inside the building, with shots causing more than $5,000 in damage. Per court documents, 13 of the shots fired by Duron went through the north-facing window, and two additional shots penetrated the north wall. An officer responding to the disturbance was struck in the hand by an object "that allegedly came from the direction of the gun club," according to KUTV. Authorities have yet to fully disclose the motives or intentions behind Duron's actions.
Following the tense confrontation, Duron stayed stationary inside a vehicle, brandishing a "rifle-style gun" on his lap, as stated by court documents. Ultimately, he exited the van and, complying with the SWAT team's commands, placed the rifle on the ground. Duron was subsequently taken into custody and transported to the hospital for an evaluation, but not before causing significant alarm to the community. Upon a search of Duron’s van, police found five firearms believed to have been stolen from the gun club, as ABC4 reported.
