As we approach the end of summer, Utah's Provo Fire & Rescue has announced a return to Stage 1 Fire Restrictions starting on August 29. As fire hazards continue to pose a real threat to natural areas and communities, officials are urging residents and visitors to exercise caution when engaging in activities that could ignite a wildfire.
According to a social media post from Provo Fire & Rescue, the easing of restrictions comes with a stark reminder: "just because you can, doesn’t mean you should." The announcement listed the do's and don'ts under the new regulations, including allowing campfires in established fire pits at improved campgrounds and day-use sites, the use of gas or propane stoves, grills, and lanterns, and the use of charcoal briquettes in designated fire rings or grills at developed recreation sites. However, fires outside approved areas remain strictly prohibited.
With Labor Day weekend approaching, many families and outdoor enthusiasts are planning to make the most of their holiday in Provo City parks. Provo Fire & Rescue encourages everyone to "recreate responsibly" and to "follow fire safety guidelines" to "keep our community safe." The organization emphasized the importance of remaining vigilant in dry conditions, where one spark could have devastating consequences.
