As reported on September 21 by the Louisiana Department of Wildlife and Fisheries (LDWF), two individuals experienced a sudden and severe collision while navigating Choctaw Bayou in a 17-foot boat.

The incident, which occurred approximately three-quarters of a mile from the marina of their departure, led to one individual being ejected from the vessel. The other occupant managed to stay aboard amid the chaos. Both, however, sustained serious injuries and required immediate medical attention. The ejected boater was airlifted to Our Lady of the Lake Hospital in Baton Rouge, while the second individual was transported there via ambulance.

LDWF enforcement agents, who were alerted to the mishap around 8:40 p.m., are taking the lead on this investigation. They are working diligently to understand what transpired on that vessel and what object was hit that resulted in such trauma. The nature of the object the vessel struck has not been disclosed yet.
