In a recent social media post, the Lehi City Police Department unveiled the details of an operation that led to the arrest of a 37-year-old male by their Special Victims Unit (SVU). The individual, whose identity has not been disclosed, was caught in a sting operation where an SVU detective posed as a 13-year-old girl online. The man engaged in sexually explicit conversations with the detective even after being informed of the 'girl's' age. According to the Lehi City Police Department, the suspect had intended to meet with the teenager, only to be greeted by law enforcement officers upon his arrival.
During an interrogation, the suspect conceded the nature of his online dialogue but claimed he was under the belief that he was conversing with someone he knew. The officers at the scene discovered the man to be carrying condoms and alcohol. After his detainment, the man was charged with a series of felonies, including Attempted Rape of a Child, Enticement of a Minor, and Aggravated Sexual Exploitation of a Minor, as detailed in the Lehi City Police Department social media post.
The Lehi City Police Department's announcement about the arrest highlighted the ongoing effort by law enforcement to intercept and prevent potential sexual crimes against minors. They reported that the man, now in custody, was booked into the Utah County Jail on multiple counts with two charges of Enticement of a Minor carrying second-degree felony status, and additional first and second-degree felony charges related to child sexual abuse allegations.
