A fatal crash in St. Landry Parish claimed the life of 49-year-old Michelle Romero of Arnaudville early on Monday. Louisiana State Police reported that her Nissan Rogue went off Louisiana Highway 93 near Saputil Lane, hit an embankment, and overturned.
Investigators said Romero was not wearing a seat belt and sustained severe injuries before being taken to a nearby hospital, where she later died. A toxicology sample has been submitted as part of the ongoing investigation into the cause of the crash, according to the Louisiana State Police.
Louisiana State Police stated, “While not all crashes are survivable, wearing seat belts correctly can significantly improve your chances of survival and reduce injury severity.” They advised that seat belts should be positioned across the hips and shoulders and noted that distracted and inattentive driving continues to be a leading cause of crashes in the state. Police encouraged drivers to follow safety measures and traffic laws to reduce accidents.
