An investigation is underway by the Salt Lake City Police Department following a deadly incident where a pedestrian was struck by a vehicle last Friday. According to the Salt Lake City Police Department, emergency services were alerted to the crash at around 6:26 a.m. near the Salt Lake City Fleet Department in the Poplar Grove neighborhood.
The victim, identified as 65-year-old Jesse Marchant, was hit in a crosswalk at the intersection of 2000 West and 500 South. Despite receiving immediate medical attention from responders, including officers from the SLCPD Pioneer Patrol Division, Salt Lake City Fire, and Gold Cross, Marchant succumbed to his severe injuries several hours after being transported to a local hospital.
The driver involved in the collision remained at the scene and is reported to be cooperating with the police investigation. As per the initial findings, the vehicle was moving eastbound on 500 South when it collided with Marchant. Details regarding the cause and specific circumstances surrounding the crash are currently being reviewed.
