A Texas woman was killed in a two-vehicle crash on Interstate 12 in Tangipahoa Parish. The accident, involving a 2019 Volkswagen Atlas and a 2015 Harley Davidson Ultra Limited motorcycle, occurred around 3 p.m. on Tuesday. The collision sadly resulted in the death of 76-year-old June Volkman from Zapata, Texas, as confirmed by the Louisiana State Police.
The circumstances surrounding why the Volkswagen struck the rear of the Harley, ejecting its driver and passenger, remain under investigation. After hitting the motorcycle, the Volkswagen was being driven by a motorist who escaped the incident unscathed and received a citation for following too closely, according to the Louisiana State Police.
Despite wearing a DOT-approved helmet, Volkman's injuries were too severe to overcome. Tragically, after being transported to a local hospital, she passed away. The motorcycle's driver, also helmeted, sustained moderate injuries and is undergoing treatment. The driver of the Volkswagen, who was wearing a seatbelt, was not injured in the crash.
