Early Sunday, a road rage incident on I-465 led to shots being fired in a Carmel neighborhood. Carmel Police responded around 3:35 a.m. to the 3700 block of W. 97th Street. The conflict, which began on the interstate, continued to a nearby residence, according to the Carmel Police Department's Post.

Authorities attempted to contact the individuals at the residence, leading the Carmel SWAT team, assisted by Fishers SWAT, to execute search warrants on two adjacent homes. Detectives located the male suspect and, with IMPD’s help, stopped his vehicle and arrested him. The Carmel man faces charges of Unlawful Possession of a Firearm by a Serious Violent Felon and Criminal Recklessness with a Deadly Weapon.

Additional charges against the suspect include Intimidation and Unlawful Possession of a Firearm by a Domestic Batterer. Final charging decisions will be made by the Hamilton County Prosecutor’s Office. Authorities thanked IMPD, the Fishers SWAT Team, and Carmel officers for their roles in the operation.
