A fatal accident on a St. Bernard Parish highway took the life of a Metairie man over the weekend. The Louisiana State Police Troop B reported that 64-year-old Scott Sanders died after his vehicle crashed into a steel billboard pillar on Saturday, October 25.
Scott Sanders was driving a 2025 Hyundai Palisade northbound on LA 39 by Schnell Drive when his vehicle, for reasons that are still yet to fully understand, veered off the road. According to a statement from the Louisiana State Police, the incident occurred around 12:30 p.m. and Sanders, who was not wearing his seatbelt, sustained serious injuries that led to his death after being transported to a local hospital.
While impairment has been initially ruled out as a cause for Sanders' crash, the authorities are still waiting on routine toxicology test results. Meanwhile, the investigation into the exact cause of the accident is ongoing. The Louisiana State Police continue to stress the importance of seatbelt use, noting how this simple action can "drastically decrease your chance of injury or death during a crash."
