Firefighters from St. Tammany Fire Protection District #1 responded to a house trailer fire in the Alton area. The blaze, which was producing heavy smoke when crews arrived, appears to have been caused by an electrical malfunction.
According to the St. Tammany Fire Protection District #1's Facebook post, the homeowner was not present, and no injuries were reported. Fire officials noted that the residence did not have operational smoke detectors.
The fire department reminded residents to check smoke detectors, replace batteries, or install new detectors if they are over 10 years old. Through Operation Save A Life, the department offers free smoke detector installation for those in need. Residents can request a detector by calling 985-649-3665.
