Nine months after a 24-year-old man was gunned down on the 5000 block of West Quincy Street, a 16-year-old has been arrested in the Austin neighborhood and charged with first-degree murder in the case. The May 3, 2025, shooting left the victim hospitalized before he was later pronounced dead.

Police said the teen was taken into custody on Tuesday on the same block where the killing occurred, after investigators identified him as the person who approached the victim during an early-morning argument and opened fire. Detectives say he fled the scene but has now been hit with one felony count of first-degree murder. Authorities have kept a tight lid on additional details, FOX 32 Chicago reported.

The victim was identified as 24-year-old Allante Harrison. According to the Chicago Sun-Times, the shooting unfolded around 1 a.m. on the sidewalk when an argument turned physical. Harrison was shot in the chest and rushed to Mt. Sinai Hospital, where the medical examiner later pronounced him dead, the Chicago Sun-Times reported.

Shooting Was Part Of A Larger Night Of Violence

The West Quincy killing was one of several shootings across Chicago that same weekend, part of a grim streak that kept officers and emergency rooms busy. A May roundup pulled together police and media reports from that night and noted that multiple neighborhoods were hit during a violent night with five shootings and two fatalities.

Legal Next Steps

The 16-year-old has been charged with one felony count of first-degree murder, police said, and the case now moves into the Cook County courts, where judges and prosecutors will sort out how it proceeds. It was not immediately clear from public reports whether prosecutors will seek to try him as an adult or what bond, if any, has been set, FOX 32 Chicago reported.

Officials have yet to release a suspected motive and have shared few other details about the investigation. Detectives say the case remains open, with no additional arrests announced so far. Authorities are expected to release more information as it becomes available.
