A 33-year-old Honduran man, Denis Edgardo Buezo-Zelaya, has been sentenced for illegal reentry into the United States, according to U.S. Attorney David I. Courcelle. Buezo, who pleaded guilty, was previously removed from the U.S. on August 13, 2014, and was found in the Eastern District of Louisiana on February 3, 2024, without permission to reenter.
According to the U.S. Attorney's Office release, U.S. District Court Judge Darrel James Papillion sentenced Buezo to time served, followed by one year of supervised release, and ordered him to pay a $100 special assessment fee. The case was investigated by U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement, Enforcement and Removal Operations, and the Jefferson Parish Sheriff’s Office.
Assistant U.S. Attorney Jon M. Maestri handled the prosecution. The case highlights federal efforts to enforce immigration laws and prevent illegal reentry.
