Jefferson Parish Judge Lee Faulkner has sentenced 50-year-old Marrero resident Mark Albarado to life in prison for first-degree rape and sexual battery of a child under 13. The sentencing, handed down yesterday, follows Albarado’s conviction last month.

Accoding to the Jefferson Parish District Attorney's Office release, the case began after the victim disclosed abuse that occurred over six years, starting at a campground in Tangipahoa Parish and later at a Marrero residence. DNA evidence found on the child’s undergarment supported the investigation. The victim first confided in step-siblings in March 2022.

The trial was held in the 24th Judicial District Court, where a jury found Albarado guilty. In addition to the life sentence, Albarado received a consecutive 25-year sentence for sexual battery, to run concurrently.

According to the victim’s mother, the sentence ensures Albarado will not be able to harm another child.
