A quiet night in Slidell turned terrifying when a 20-year-old driver crashed his car through the front of a home, ending up inside a bedroom where a 13-year-old was asleep. Police say the child escaped with only minor injuries, while the driver appeared visibly intoxicated at the scene.
Police: Vehicle Ended Up Inside Bedroom
According to the Slidell Police Department, officers were called around 11 p.m. Thursday last week to the 100 block of Dewald Drive. When they arrived, they found a gray Nissan Altima completely inside a bedroom where the 13-year-old had been sleeping.
Investigators noted that the teen had recently moved his bed. The department said that if the bed had still been in its previous spot, the outcome could have been much worse.
Driver Arrested On Multiple Charges
Officers arrested 20-year-old Alec Dillon at the scene and described him as visibly intoxicated. WDSU reports that Dillon was booked on second-offense DWI, reckless operation of a motor vehicle, vehicular negligent injuring, driving under suspension, and open-container charges.
Chief Calls Outcome A 'Miracle'
Slidell Police Chief Daniel Seuzeneau did not hold back in his reaction on the Slidell Police Department's Facebook page, writing, “GOD IS GOOD and truly had his hands on this miracle.”
He added that “drinking and driving is one of the most selfish things someone can do” and urged the driver to get help, while emphasizing how fortunate the child was to avoid serious injury.
What Comes Next
It is not yet known when Dillon will appear in St. Tammany Parish court, as the investigation remains active. WDSU notes that police said they are still gathering evidence and have not released any additional updates.
