Monroe County sheriff's deputies say a routine late-night traffic stop in Bloomington ended with two locals in handcuffs and a car full of goods allegedly tied to an armed business burglary. Abigail Moon, 32, and Tyler Yates, 32, were arrested on April 6 after investigators linked items in their vehicle to a March 23 break-in at a local business, according to authorities. The recovered haul included tobacco, vaping and THC products that police say matched the reported losses from the earlier burglary.

Expired plates, a K-9 alert and a car full of merch

Deputies pulled over the pair on Bloomington's south side around 2:27 a.m. for expired license plates. The Monroe County Sheriff's Office said K-9 Figo "alerted to possible narcotics," which gave deputies cause to search the vehicle. That search turned up drug paraphernalia, a handgun and wholesale-packaged tobacco, vape and THC products, according to FOX59. Many of the items were stashed in a shipping box labeled with the name and address of a Bloomington business, officials said.

What the charges mean

Moon and Yates are facing a preliminary charge of burglary with a deadly weapon, which is classified as a Level 2 felony in Indiana. Under state sentencing guidelines, a Level 2 felony can bring a prison term ranging from 10 to 30 years and fines up to $10,000, according to Indiana law published by Justia.

Deputies link seized goods to March 23 armed break-in

Investigators with the sheriff's office and Bloomington police later determined that the seized products had been stolen during a March 23 armed burglary at a local business. Surveillance video from that incident reportedly showed a suspect vehicle that matched the car deputies stopped on April 6, FOX59 reported. The outlet noted that court dates were not yet available and that no cases for Moon or Yates had appeared in Indiana's public court reporting system at the time of publication. The sheriff's office said the investigation is still active as officers continue processing evidence and coordinating with partner agencies.
