A man was fatally shot Tuesday afternoon in the St. Claude neighborhood of New Orleans, turning a busy intersection near North Claiborne Avenue and Desire Street into an active crime scene, police said. Officers responding to reports of gunfire found a man suffering from at least one gunshot wound.
NOPD details
The New Orleans Police Department said officers arrived at 5:01 p.m. on April 7 and located the victim. His name and age have not been released, and authorities have not publicly said whether he died at the scene or after being taken to a hospital, according to FOX 8.
Where this happened
The shooting occurred along the North Claiborne corridor near Desire Street, an area described as a mix of small businesses and two-family homes in Planning District 7. That land-use mix helps keep the intersection active as a neighborhood artery connecting the Bywater and St. Claude sections, according to City of New Orleans planning documents.
Investigation ongoing
NOPD homicide detectives are investigating the killing, and no arrests were reported in the department’s initial update. No additional details or official updates were immediately available, FOX 8 reported.
