A confrontation on the 100 block of Deanna Drive in Lowell turned chaotic Wednesday when police say a man armed with a large kitchen knife charged at an officer, threatened to kill him and allegedly went for the officer’s gun before being taken down.

According to police, the suspect shouted, "I'm going to f****** kill you," during the struggle before he was disarmed and arrested at the scene.

Police account

Authorities identified the man as 26-year-old Ethan Patrick Meyer. Online court records reviewed by WTHR show he was booked on six felony counts, including attempted murder, battery with a deadly weapon, intimidation, resisting law enforcement with a weapon, resisting law enforcement causing moderate bodily injury and disarming a law enforcement officer.

Investigators say Meyer allegedly charged the officer with the kitchen knife and tried to stab the officer in the back of the neck before he was subdued.

Earlier run-ins

Meyer has appeared in local arrest logs before. In September 2025 in Griffith, police say he claimed to be a police officer and was found with methamphetamine and stolen mail, according to a regional report. That incident led to multiple charges and a booking in Lake County, as reported by Region News Source.

Legal implications

Meyer is currently held in the Lake County Jail on a $100,000 bond, court records show, according to WTHR.

Under Indiana law, attempted murder is classified as a Level 1 felony and carries a fixed prison term that typically ranges from 20 to 40 years, with a 30-year advisory sentence in many cases under the state’s sentencing rules. The penalty range for Level 1 felonies is detailed in the Indiana Code, which can be reviewed via Indiana Code (Justia). Meyer is presumed innocent unless and until he is proven guilty in court.

The case remains under investigation, and officials have not released additional details.
