Indianapolis woke up to a rare treat this morning: clear skies, a fresher feel in the air and temperatures hanging in the mid-60s, with dew points sitting well below what we slogged through earlier in the week. The city is in for a mostly sunny day with a high near 75 degrees, which should feel noticeably more comfortable than the recent muggy stretch.
A broad area of high pressure is set to keep things dry and on the cooler side through Friday. Daytime highs will generally stay in the 70s, with overnight lows dipping into the upper 50s. North winds are expected around 5-10 mph, with gusts reaching into the teens, according to the National Weather Service.
Afternoon Winds Pick Up
As the day wears on, steady north winds will move through the metro area, with gusts near 18 mph at times. Lightweight patio furniture and umbrellas could get a bit rowdy. Drivers on bridges and overpasses may notice those brisk crosswinds, but any travel impacts should stay minor.
Weekend Warmup And Storm Chances
The cool spell does not last. A warmup begins Saturday, with highs climbing to around 84 degrees. By Sunday and Monday, the heat really settles in, with temperatures jumping into the lower 90s, about 92 on Sunday and near 91 on Monday. A slight chance of showers and thunderstorms returns late Sunday night into early next week. Widespread severe weather is not expected, although a few isolated strong storms with heavy rain or gusty winds are possible, according to the National Weather Service.
