A 19-year-old man was slashed late Sunday night during a fight on the Chicago Riverwalk and taken to Northwestern Memorial Hospital, where he was listed in good condition, according to police.
Officers said the confrontation broke out around 10:59 p.m. on the Riverwalk just west of State Street, turning physical when another man struck the victim with a sharp object and cut his arm, according to CBS Chicago. The attacker ran off in an unknown direction, and Belmont Area detectives were assigned to investigate.
Downtown incidents this week
The Riverwalk slashing landed in the middle of a rough stretch for the downtown area. Earlier in the week, a deadly shooting near State and Grand on July 1 left one man dead and another injured, as reported by NBC Chicago. That case brought out a heavy police presence and dozens of evidence markers as investigators combed the scene.
Riverwalk incidents aren't new
Violence on the Riverwalk is not a new storyline. In 2021, an argument there left two men critically hurt, according to ABC7 Chicago, prompting prior calls for witnesses and surveillance footage.
In the latest case, Belmont Area detectives have again asked anyone with information or cellphone video to contact them. Police have not released a suspect description, and the investigation remains active, according to CBS Chicago.
