Indianapolis’ own Eclipse Drum & Bugle Corps is about to trade rehearsal fields for the bright lights of Lucas Oil Stadium, making its first appearance there during Drum Corps International’s World Championships. For a young ensemble built around music education and leadership development, this is the kind of hometown spotlight that can turn a long road of camps into one very loud Thursday night.
Eclipse is scheduled to perform Thursday as the DCI World Championships bring elite brass, percussion and color guard performers to downtown Indianapolis. WISH-TV reports the corps is in its fourth year, is based in Indiana and is the state’s first competitive drum corps in more than 30 years.
The organization started in 2023 as a SoundSport ensemble before being voted into Open Class affiliate status for the 2026 season. In a May update, Drum Corps International said Eclipse had grown from 36 members in 2025 and was on track to approach 60 this year, after earning a gold rating at the 2025 SoundSport International Music & Food Festival.
That promotion is not just a line on a competition schedule. Corps director Jacquelyn Brice told DCI that helping provide “Indiana students a local option for a quality full drum corps experience” was a personal goal, with members driving the push toward Open Class.
Eclipse Joins A Packed Championship Week
The championship week runs through Saturday, with world championship prelims at Lucas Oil Stadium on Thursday, semifinals Friday and finals Saturday. Eclipse is listed in Thursday’s prelims lineup alongside corps from across the country and international groups, according to the official DCI schedule.
There are lower-stakes ways to catch the spectacle, too. Friday’s “Shining a Light on Music Education” is slated for 5 to 9 p.m. at Monument Circle, while Saturday’s free SoundSport International Music & Food Festival runs from 10:30 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. outside the stadium; warm-up sessions at Military Park are also free to watch, WISH-TV reports.
For Eclipse, the stadium debut is the visible payoff of its climb from SoundSport ensemble to Open Class affiliate. Indianapolis will get to see a local program make that jump in front of one of the biggest audiences in competitive marching music, with the brass, drums and color guard doing the talking.
