Indianapolis police spent the overnight hours investigating three separate shootings on the city’s east side, with two people confirmed dead and a third scene under scrutiny Friday morning. The cases unfolded within hours of one another, but investigators have not said they are connected.
The first call came Thursday night after officers found a woman shot inside a car. According to WIBC 93.1 FM, the victim was identified as 29-year-old Alonna Steen, and police arrested 27-year-old Taylor Boyd on a preliminary murder charge.
Two East-Side Scenes Turn Fatal
Police said the Hendricks Place shooting was reported at about 9:20 p.m., and Steen was pronounced dead at the scene. Boyd was identified in jail records as Steen’s boyfriend, though investigators have not publicly described what led to the shooting or released additional details about the evidence.
Minutes later, officers were sent to the far east side after a report of another person shot. The victim, identified as 19-year-old Keith Castile Jr., was taken to an area hospital in critical condition but died shortly after arriving, while a person detained at that scene was later released pending further investigation, WIBC reported.
Third Shooting Raises Suicide Possibility
By about 9 a.m. Friday, East District officers were investigating another shooting after finding a woman with injuries consistent with a gunshot wound. Detectives are examining the possibility of a suicide, and two people detained at the scene had no publicly established connection to the incident.
The cluster comes less than a month after another deadly east-side case that investigators described as a suspected murder-suicide. Hoodline previously reported that a July 6 shooting near East 13th Street and North Gladstone Avenue left both a woman and a man dead.
Arrest Is Preliminary As Investigations Continue
Boyd’s arrest is based on a preliminary murder charge, not a conviction, and the case remains subject to further investigation and court proceedings. Detectives processed all three scenes with assistance from the Indianapolis-Marion County Forensic Services Agency, while the Marion County Coroner’s Office is expected to determine the official manner and cause of death for the victims.
