Cutler Bay is about to get a two-piano-icon evening, with Michael Cavanaugh bringing the songs of Billy Joel and Elton John to the Dennis C. Moss Cultural Arts Center. The concert pairs a symphonic backdrop with a performer whose Broadway career was launched by Joel himself.
“The Music of Billy Joel & Elton John” is scheduled for Saturday, August 29, at 8 p.m., according to Miami's Community News. Cavanaugh was selected by Billy Joel to lead the Broadway production “Movin’ Out,” and the Moss Center concert will feature classics from both artists’ catalogs. Tickets range from $40 to $70, with $80 VIP seating available.
From Broadway’s Movin’ Out To A South Dade Stage
Cavanaugh’s connection to Joel is more than a convenient concert-bio detail: He performed the lead role in “Movin’ Out” for more than 1,200 performances over three years. His official artist website lists songs including “Rocket Man,” “I’m Still Standing,” “Candle in the Wind,” “Movin’ Out,” “My Life” and “Piano Man.”
The production is built as a symphonic celebration rather than a straight impersonation show, giving Cavanaugh room to lean into the piano-driven rock that made both singers household names. His résumé also includes Tony and GRAMMY Award nominations, performances at the Super Bowl and Indianapolis 500, and appearances with symphony orchestras across the country, as reported by Miami’s Community News.
Tickets, VIP Seating And Age Recommendation
The show is recommended for audiences ages 13 and older. VIP tickets include table seating and one complimentary wine, beer or soft drink, though they must be purchased in quantities of at least two per table.
Tickets are available through the Moss Center box office, online or by phone at 786-573-5300. The Miami-Dade County-managed venue also says its facility is accessible and offers assistive listening devices in the Main Stage Auditorium and Black Box Theater.
