San Francisco-based artisanal chocolate maker L'Amourette Chocolat will soon open a new shop and cafe in the Castro.
L'Amourette will be opening a chocolate shop and cafe at 548 Castro Street, formerly the plant shop How's It Hanging.
Andre V. and his wife, Roxanne, founded L'Amourette Chocolat in 2011. They currently have one shop in Pacific Heights at 2412 Fillmore Street which opened in 2022.

"We’re very excited to become part of the Castro community," Andre tells Hoodline. "L’Amourette is a San Francisco-based chocolate company, and we make our chocolate locally from carefully selected cacao using traditional methods. Our focus has always been on exceptional ingredients and craftsmanship — our chocolate contains no artificial preservatives, no cocoa butter substitutes, and no emulsifiers such as lecithin."
Andre tells Hoodline that the shop will offer more than just chocolate. "We are creating a chocolate and coffee experience where guests will be able to enjoy our chocolates, confections and other specialties alongside carefully prepared espresso and coffee," he said.

According to Andre, the shop's interior is being designed "with a distinctive Art Deco influence, combining the character of historic San Francisco with a contemporary European café atmosphere."
"We want it to feel like a place where neighborhood residents can stop in regularly for a coffee and chocolate, but also somewhere visitors will remember as a uniquely San Francisco experience," added Andre.
L'Amourette Chocolate will fill the void left by Kokak Chocolates after it closed last year.

Andre told Hoodline that they are preparing to open the shop and could not share all the details. No opening date has been announced.
"We’ll have more to share as we get closer," said Andre.
Public records indicate that no construction permits or planning applications have been filed at this time.
"We’re genuinely looking forward to joining the Castro and contributing something special to such an iconic San Francisco neighborhood," said Andre.
